Glass Firenze Lampwork Studio is thrilled to announce the arrival of lampwork artists Tink Martin and John Cramer for a three class series starting with learning how Tink makes those beautiful vessels and ending with having Tink dip into her vast "Tips and Tricks" vault to share those sometimes elusive techniques with us all.

***Just added to each class is a demonstration in how to make the sterling silver caps for the Globe Pendants!!  This is a soldering project and the cap supplies will be included (if you have a butane torch please bring it - my supply is limited).  This demo will be added to each class so no one goes without learning this fun process!   Tink keeps favoring her Alaskan students with very special demonstrations... don't miss out on the fun and sign up now as seating is limited!

Tips & Tricks - Beginner Class
Saturday, May 24, 2008 - 10am - 6pm (includes 1 hour lunch)
$175.00 - Price includes all class supplies - The Best Deal Possible!!!
Tink has generously added instruction on making "micro marbles" to this class!! Plus, there will be a lecture on Electroforming at the beginning of the class.  This will include settings, techniques.  It is a Q&A on electroforming.  We will not actually Eform anything.  But the Eforming Lecture will include information on how to use the machine to "Etch" Silver, Copper and other Metals!!  Iewww... Cool.... I didn't know you could do that! :-)  That makes this an amazing class full of a wide variety of instruction.  We may have to run late so be prepared.

This class is always great fun! It's a collection of things you'd like to learn, but that doesn't warrant a class in and of themselves. Quite often the class takes its own direction, depending on the students' desires. Topics can include: glass compatibility stringer tests, Venetian glass pen techniques, hollow beads, blown ornaments, implosion pendants, using PMC on glass, blowing, using shards and making your own signature cane. It's structured playtime at its best. Students are encouraged to connect with Tink in advance of the class to discuss topics of interest to them. This allows her to bring any special tools or supplies that might be needed. No two class sessions will be the same!
Some Flameworking experience is desirable - this is a beginner level - minimum 3 hours of torch time class!

Here is a photo of glass pens... this isn't John or Tink's but it is what we will learn in class....

To Elaborate: The Tips and Tricks class generally covers:

Glass Pens - Ornaments/pendants - Making/using shards - Blown beads - Glass tinting - Glass carving - Image transfer

The primary purpose of the T&T class is to:

  • Clear up some of the “how do they do that?” mysteries
  • Get students thinking outside their ‘ruts’ or personal comfort zones
  • Teach students how to do some cool things that most people don’t know about, giving their work an edge in the marketplace

Beginning Blown "Vessels I" - Beginner Class
Sunday, May 25, 2008 - 10am - 6pm (includes 1 hour lunch)
$295.00 - Price includes all class supplies (CLASS IS FULL)
This is a direct quote from Tink about the level necessary for this class and even moving onto Advanced Blown Vessels.  "First, the blown vessel class(es) are definitely for beginners. Such a totally new technique really levels the playing field, so you’re hard pressed to tell who is extremely experienced and who isn’t when walking around the class. Also, even if a student isn’t interested in vessels, per se, we cover blowing shards, ornaments and pendants in the Vessels I class. We routinely teach this class to students with three hours of torch time under their belts (here in Toledo). The only real request we have is that the student is comfortable enough with the torch that they don’t scream every time it’s lit or have a tendency to set themselves on fire... Don’t laugh. We get that ALL the time."  lol

Advanced Blown "Vessels II" - Just Need "Vessels I"
Monday, May 26th, 2008 - 10am - 6pm (includes 1 hour lunch)
$245.00 - New Lower Price includes all class supplies
Take your blown vessels to the next level - and learn to make this very cool globe ornament - the little micro marbles learned in Tips and Tricks fit inside, or other goodies may inhabit this unique pendant! This class is the natural progression from the Beginning Vessels Class - it is only broken up into two classes so you have a better choice with how to spend your class attending funds.  Tink said that often times this class will still have a few seats open by the time they arrive, but once the students have finished Vessels I they are clamoring to get into Vessels II!.  But if you have some blown vessel experience this class will be the place for you to start!  This class is for those familiar with Tink’s on-mandrel blown vessel techniques who would like to incorporate more complex embellishments and design elements into their works. Picks up where Miniature Blown Vessels leaves off. Covered are fancy lip wraps, fancy stoppers, alternate handle techniques, new body shapes, adding feet and much, much more! This class is a perfect follow-up to Beginning Blown Vessels, and can be taken the day AFTER that class. When offering both of these classes at a venue, we offer them on concurrent days, in order, for just this reason!

Here are links to Tink's web site so you may see what's going on with John and Tink, and to peruse the Gallery to get ideas on what direction you'd like to see this class go... http://www.blackswampglassworks.com/ .  Don't be shy in contacting tink via email to start the conversation tink@blackswampglassworks.com ... YOU get to create this class!!!

This is going to be a fantastic weekend!!

Please be sure to visit the "Class Policies" page before registering for a class.

**If you are interested in this class it is to your advantage to sign up as soon as possible.  If registration for any class held at the studio is not sufficient it may be cancelled... don't let that happen!!  That would be sad. :-(   Naturally, you will receive a full refund on any class that is cancelled by the studio.  Sincerely, Deborah
